World Cup Fantasy: Schmitzer’s preview part II (Round of 16)

The first day of the Round of 16 brought us 10 goals in 2 games while day 2 brought us two penalty shoot-outs. Let’s hope the next two days bring just as much excitement while rewarding our fantasy teams!

Brazil vs Mexico

5 time champions Brazil take on tournament underdogs Mexico in Monday’s first match. Before the tournament this would have been seen as an easy win for Neymar and co. but now with Mexico on top form this could be a very close game.

You can’t ignore Brazil’s attacking assets and going for the likes of Coutinho, Neymar or Jesus should pay off nicely. As for Mexico, Lozano has really made a name for him so far in the tournament and goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa could bring in a clean sheet if he performs as well as he has so far.

TOP PICK: Philippe Coutinho
WILDCARD: Guillermo Ochoa

Belgium vs Japan

Roberto Martínez’ men should cruise into the quarter finals against the Japanese and at this rate Belgium could go very far in the competition if they keep up the form that they are on at the moment.

One man has shone for the Belgians and that’s Romelu Lukaku with 4 goals so far in the World Cup. Any attacking player from Belgium is worth taking a chance with in your fantasy football team with Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard looking to get some attacking returns.

TOP PICK: Romelu Lukaku
WILDCARD: Adnan Januzaj

Sweden vs Switzerland

Both of these teams getting out of their groups was surprising enough and now one of them will make it to the quarter final. They’re two of the teams in this round with the no stand out players which means picking their players for your Fantasy Football team is challenging.

My top pick would be Switzerland’s Xherdan Shaqiri who will be looking to get a few goals past the Swedish defence but as I said, maybe try avoiding players from this game for your starting XI.

TOP PICK: Xherdan Shaqiri
WILDCARD: Victor Lindelof

Columbia vs England

For me, this could be the most entertaining game of the round of 16 with England performing well and scoring lots of goals so far while Columbia has a very strong team all over the pitch.

The man you would go for from the Columbian team is James Rodriguez but rumours around his recent injury say he may not be fit to play so if you are going for a Columbian player I’d be going for Falcao.

TOP PICK: Harry Kane
WILDCARD: Juan Cuadrado
