Champion’s Transfer Targets GW24: Schmeichel as an attractive goalkeeper option

Hi all and welcome to another Transfer Targets article by me, FPLchampion.

Gameweek 23 for me was a blast in which I scored 90 points and saw my rank recover strongly yet again. Here are my thoughts on the upcoming key transfer targets:

Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester City)

Position: Goalkeeper (GKP)
Current price: £5.0m
TSB: 4%
Fixtures: WAT, eve, SWA, mci, STO, BOU, wba

Leicester only play 3 of the ‘big 6’ for the remainder of the season, making their defensive assets very appealing. Nobody likes constantly switching up their backline in FPL, so season long defensive players are gold.

Schmeichel is currently the best way to access the Leicester clean sheets. Maguire is the only other nailed-on option but costs £5.4m.

Leicester have kept back-to-back clean sheets, including one against Chelsea (a game in which Schmeichel scored 11 points!). Not often I pick out a Goalkeeper as a target, but this guy shouldn’t go unnoticed.

So if like me your keeper needs a change, then Schmeichel could very well be your man.

Marko Arnautovic (West Ham)

Position: Midfielder (MID)
Current price: £7.0m
TSB: 9.7%
Fixtures: BOU, CRY, bri, WAT, liv, swa

I featured Arnautovic as a differential a couple of weeks ago and boy has he delivered. He was my captain in GW23 in which he scored a goal and got two assists, as well as all 3 bonus points. He even outscored Harry Kane who scored two goals.

Arnie now has 6 goals and 3 assists in his past 7 games for West Ham, continuing his fantastic value returns. Arnie has been a no brainer for me since DGW22 and an easy transfer in.

With popular picks such as Son having tough fixtures approaching or Mahrez who’s future is uncertain, this guy makes the perfect replacement and will bolster your bank balance.

Firmino / Mane (Liverpool)

Positions: Forward (FOR) + Midfielder (MID)
Current prices: £9.1m / £9.3m
TSB: 37% / 7%
Fixtures: swa, hud, SPU, sou, WHU, NEW

Lets start this pick off brutally honest, if you don’t own Salah then you probably deserve to go down in rank. Yes everybody owns him, but that’s exactly why you cant drop him. He returns week in and week out and there’s just no excuse not to have Salah.

Liverpool achieved a great thing against Manchester City; victory, and they did this without the incredible talents of Coutinho.

Liverpool return to a power trio with Salah, Firmino and Mane. All 3 scored against Manchester City and Liverpool play a poor Swansea and Huddersfield side next. The point of this pick is to suggest a double up. You either own Salah + Firmino (safer option), or Salah + Mane (riskier but much more of a differential).

The advantage of Mane is that he is only owned by 7% so your rank will fly up if Mane outscores Firmino. A Liverpool double up has proven to be a great technique, so don’t be scared to do it.

That’s it for my key transfer thoughts this week. For more, follow me on Twitter @FPL champion.
