It has been a different FPL season with defenders mostly dominating the game which is maybe due to the fact that full backs are heavily relied in attack in the top teams’ tactics. However, the game this season is very interesting with a lot of options available and the impossibility of owning them all.
Last week, Monreal was the one out of the three picks to deliver the goods with a goal and two bonus points for a total of 10 points while Fraser blanked despite playing very well and missed out on an assist due to a big chance missed by Wilson. Morata, the MadPick, failed to score. However, like all the MadPicks this season, I expect him to score a week later…
Leighton Baines (Price: £5.5, TSB: 1.5%)
In the spirit of premium left backs delivering, I am picking one who’s an all-time FPL legend. Leighton Baines has been a great asset over the years with his set pieces and penalty duties as well as his involvement in attack.
Everton hasn’t kept a clean sheet yet this season but I fully expect them to do that against Huddersfield town at home this week. With a known FPL pedigree and three relatively easy home games in the next 4 games; Huddersfield, West Ham and Fulham, he’s a great differential and a lot cheaper option than his fellow premium full backs.
Andros Townsend (Price: £5.9, TSB: 1.8%)
The hot topic this week is Richarlison’s replacement. Most people have already gone for his Everton teammate, Theo Walcott. However, I find that move boring and dull; other options like Gundogan, Milivojevic and Lingard sound way better. However, I came up with an even spicier option here in Andros Townsend.
The Crystal Palace winger is available for only 5.9 million and he’s a real workhorse for that Eagles team. I really feel, if he step it up, he can more than match Zaha as he’s classified as a midfielder unlike his Ivorian teammate. With a great run of fixtures, Townsend will be a great differential and a good replacement for Richarlison.
Aaron Ramsey (Price: £7.4, TSB: 1.1%)
Another FPL great is Aaron Ramsey. The Welshman is well known for his forward runs and goal involvement at Arsenal and he’s due to open his account this week against a weak Cardiff City side where he’ll probably play again in the no10 role with Ozil struggling with injury (or internal problems at the club).
At his price close to the likes of Moura and Mkhitaryan, one may struggle to justify his purchase but for me he’s a great player to own as he loves getting those goals and assists in. With a great run of fixtures and only owned by a low 1.1%, he’s another great differential.
